Health Care Questions
Although law does not guarantee health care coverage, OPERS understands the importance of this coverage to benefit recipients and will provide it to the extent resources permit. Currently, OPERS provides health care coverage, funded by employer contributions, for retirees under the Traditional Pension and Combined Plan.
For those participating in the Member-Directed Plan, a portion of employer contributions is credited to the member's Retiree Medical Account (RMA). Amounts contributed to the Member-Directed RMA may be used for the payment of qualified health care expenses when the member separates from service.
