OPERS Health Care
OPERS offers access to health care coverage for eligible retirees and their eligible dependents. Health care coverage includes a medical plan, prescription drug plan, dental plan and vision plan.
Health care is an important part of a secure retirement. OPERS offers access to health care for eligible retirees that meet the following criteria:
- Have 20 years of qualifying service credit
- Retired from the Traditional Pension Plan or Combined Plan
- Must be 60 years of age or older (members with more than 30 years of qualifying service credit may be eligible at any age, depending on their retirement group)
Dental and vision coverage
Anyone receiving a pension benefit qualifies for OPERS dental and vision coverage, even if you do not qualify for medical or prescription drug coverage.
If you are in the health care plan, you can cover an eligible dependent. Eligible dependents include:
Spouses under age 65 may enroll in the OPERS Retiree Health Plan and are responsible for the full cost of OPERS health care coverage.
Spouses over age 65 and enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B may enroll in an individual Medicare plan with the help of the OPERS Medicare Connector.
Children must be under the age of 26 regardless of enrollment as a full-time student or marital status
Coverage may be extended if the child is permanently and totally disabled prior to age 22. Documentation of the incapacity is required.
Although OPERS understands the importance of offering health care coverage, our board has the discretion to review, rescind, modify or change our health care coverage at any time.
